Mr. Justice Mohapatra was born on 10.6.1954 at Cuttack. He is the son of late  Lokanath Mohapatra, who retired as a District Judge.
He served as Judge of Orissa High Court from 16.09.1999 - 16.10.2012. He served as Judge Allahabad High Court from 17.10.2012. He was the Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court from 19.09.2013 - 20.10.2013. He became the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court on 10.07.2014.
