Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad

Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad was born on July 20, 1964. He completed his Graduation in Science in 1986 and obtained Law Degree with Second Rank from Karnataka University, Dharwad in 1989.  During college days, he was a debater and mooter.

He was enrolled as an advocate in July 1989 in Karnataka State Bar Council, Bangalore. He practised predominantly in the High Courts of Karnataka and Madras, specializing in law relating to election, service, agrarian reforms, banking, etc. His legal acumen led to appointment as: Senior Standing Counsel for the Election Commission of India in 1999, Central Government Standing Counsel in 1999, Assistant Solicitor General of India in 2014 for representing Central Government. Additionally, he served as Standing Counsel for statutory bodies including, such as University Grants Commission (UGC), Competition Commission of India (CCI), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), National Institute of Unani Medicine, University of Animal Sciences & Fisheries, National Institute of Engineering, etc. He continued with said assignments until his Elevation as a Judge of High Court of Karnataka in February, 2018.

Justice Dixit was a Para-academician, being associated with prominent Law Colleges in Bangalore. He has been contributing articles to a few News Dailies on contemporary issues.  He participated in many television debates/discussions on prominent topics of public importance. He has also delivered several public speeches on various subjects.

During his tenure at the Karnataka High Court, Justice Dixit was part of Benches that decided cases of seminal importance like Hijab, Online Gaming, Twitter, Compulsory Medical Service, Contested Probate Proceedings, Refund of Income Tax, GST on Set Top Box, Exemption of Universities from GST, Prohibition of Blast Mining around Reservoirs, Reclaiming of Reserved Forests, Fraudulent Borrowing from Banks, Retrieving of Acquired Lands, Educational Rights of Overseas Citizens of India, Prerogative of Central Government to deny VISA to foreigners, Right to Road Show during Election Process, Parole/Furlough of Convicts, Duty of Quasi-Judicial Authorities to communicate appealable orders to the parties, Minimum Wages to Labourers, Pensioners’ rights, Privileges of Defence Personnel, Duty to maintain aged parents, wife & children, Duty of Courts to protect public properties & properties of absentee owners, Breast Feeding Rights of Lactating Mothers, Government Non-Interference in the Administration Hindu Religious Institutions/Mutts, etc.

He was sworn in as a Judge of Orissa High Court on May 12, 2025.
